The 2nd unit I ordered is working. TIC CORPORATION AMP10 Exterior Receiver Amplifier (Black Finish)The 1st unit I bought came with static noise when power up, I wonder the factory ever did any quality check. But it is very light (less than 1 lbs), OK sound for mid to highs, but there's no bass output, the volume button doesn't work very well.Unless you want to drive only small speakers (say a pair of tine 4" patio speakers), don't buy this item.
almost impossible to read.in short, if you need a waterproof unit, this is prolly ok; and maybe it sounds good with the TIC rock or omni- style speakers, but it was definitely a 3 strikes you're out for me. the 12v transformer had a high-pitched hum that was pretty audible3. definitely inferior to a garage-sale or goodwill receiver for much cheaper.
the lcd display was very poor, no matter what the light condition. I will say that the unit looked pretty rugged and the power attachment and other plug-ins seemed pretty weatherproof. I was hopeful this would stand in for an outside receiver in the gagage, since it has am/fm and a pretty good number of input plugs, but I sent it back (very rare for me) because:1.
might be better with some bright speakers2. sound quality (SQ) was really poor; sounded like a loudness button was on: heavy on bass, not good for low listening levels, though it got better with louder volumes. but pretty crappy with my wharfedale bookshelf speakers.
maybe I just got a bad unit for SQ and the transformer hum.
Works fine and so far and has been weatherproof. Easy to setup with no special skills (reading labels on unit only).
It is not overly powerful so don't attempt to drive more than a small pair of outdoor speakers with it. I am using it on my patio and I will be making a small box for it to sit in.
The tuner works well as do the inputs for outside sources. I did not however try out a microphone.
Considering the price of this item it's not a bad deal. Although it is designed for outdoor use the power supply states that it should not be subject to wet conditions.
My main complaint is that it arrived with no instructions. Other than that the unit is as described.
If I had expected more I would have given it 2 stars so I am on the fence with that.
The unit comes with multiple cables for input. The sound quality is good and power is adequate. I was at first happy about that until the ipod cable developed a short very quickly.
I connected 4 100 watt outdoor speakers and it drives them well. Oh well, I did not expect it to be included anyway. I purchased this product for use on a riverside dock.
The membrane buttons are waterproof. It is perfect. It is small and is sealed.
Considering the price, this is a great solution for poolside or dockside.
