The problem was that there was a faint discoloration in the bottom right corner of the screen. It was only noticeable in dark scenes or when a film would be letterboxed.Well, Amazon was great and let me replace my set for a new one, and so far I have had no problems at all. I bought one of these in the middle of December and it had a minor defect. The title is a little misleading though, this is my third 61" LED from Samsung. I don't count the first though because it was an open-box from Circuit City and it had a horrible LED engine problem. So minor, that Samsung said that it was within specifications and wouldn't repair it. I blame it on the previous owner and not Samsung.I highly recommend this set to any person that wants to see HD movies and games the way they were meant to be seen ;)
After a few days, I noticed a problem, and called them. (HINT: Leave the picture size at 16:9).Overall, I love this set.
It turns out that the warranty is for 1 year, no-charge inhome service. The tech was just here, and the issue turned out to be a minor adjustment.
After shopping for a couple years, I finally bought this set. It's not quite as crisp as a plasma or good LCD, but who wants to spend that kind of money for a screen half the size of this one.
The picture is big, bright, and very adjustable. The sound is better than I've heard on other tvs -- there are only two speakers, so it's not going to sound like a 5.1 system. What really impresses me is Samsung's warranty.
I haven't tried Blu-Ray yet, but am looking forward to it.Get this set while you can -- there's no bulb to replace and when you turn the TV on, it warms up in about 10 seconds.
FITS GOOD IN A APARTMENT LIVING ROOM. THIS IS A GREAT TV FOR THE PRICE. THIS IS THE 3RD ONE I HAVE PURCHESED, ONE FOR ME AND TWO AS GIFTS.
Colors are vibrant. Great TVLots of PortsExcellent pictureYou would have to spend $2500-4000 for a comparable LCD. Blacks done fairly well. This model is around 400 or $500 more than the HL61A650, but you get a much better contrast ratio (10000:1 vs 2500:1), and the LED bulb is supposed to last longer than the traditional bulb.
SONY settled with end users on this problem for sets manufactured from 2004. I'm sure this was an oversight in the set's design.Bottom line, most buyers of a 61 inch screen would want to enjoy a certain degree of ease of use with cable box and home theater connections. For starters, be aware that the audio output of this set, whether analog or digital, is fixed and flat. Although the set has a volume control and sound equalization, all of these features work only with the set's internal speakers. My set was made in November 2003, so I was out of luck. This was my first major Amazon.com purchase, and overall the results were quite good.easy ordering, free delivery in less than one week, and helpful setup. From a video standpoint the set is very impressive, delivering greater visual impact than it demonstrated in the retail outlets where I saw it on display. With the SAMSUNG HL61A750 they have their work cut out for them.Still, with the above caveats in mind, I would rate this set 4.5 out of 5 for the video performance.
Further, the supplied remote works ONLY with the TV. so easy to make connections, it therefore saddens me that the set has SO LITTLE FUNCTIONALITY with home theater systems. None of them work with the audio out connections. It is NOT multifuntional with most home theater systems (except perhaps SAMSUNG's) or cable boxes.
I telephoned SAMSUNG customer assistance and they verified these limitations. That's right friends. you must invest in your own remote to get this gorgeous set to properly function with external devices.I would be surpised if SAMSUNG'S LCD or PLASMA sets have these limitations. This SAMSUNG HL61A750 replaced a SONY 50 inch LCD projectionTV which had an optical block defect. Where were my fellow reviewers on THIS issue, I wonder.
I was truly impressed by the picture right out of the box, and further adjusted it to my preferences quite easily. Plenty of punch, even in daylit room conditions. The set features a rather extensive set of connections, conveniently placed on the side of the base so as to eliminate the need to get to the rear of the unit.So much to see.
