Editorial Reviews:

Optimized for the home theater enthusiast and designed with input from dealers and consumers in mind, the new BDP-S2000ES model is the first Blu-ray Disc player in Sony's "Elevated Standard" (ES) line. This model, as well as the new BDP-S500, which complements Sony's current BDP-S300 BD player, features full high-definition 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output. They support 7.1 channel linear PCM and Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, as well as dts-HD High Resolution Audio bitstream output via HDMI (ver1.3).

User Comments about the Sony ES BDP-S2000ES 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

They give you the impression that it does in the advertisements. However, for the price, it should be. Here is the problem. It does not decode DTS-Master Audio. I had to call the company and even they had to do some research and get back to me. Having said all of this, I still would have given it five stars. There is NO EXCUSE for this type of misleading information. The manual is written in such a vague way that you really can't tell what it can decode internally and send out over the analog connectors.

Also, what it will send bit-stream over the HDMI connector. First of all, let me say the video output of the S2000ES is first rate. It is a slow machine both on boot-up and disc loading. It does a great job on both Blu-Ray and standard DVD's. I did, however, have to do a firm-ware update to get it to run some of the new Java menus. When you buy the top of the line, you should get top of the line performance.

The player is very easy to use. I would highly recommend it. The high definition picture is a real delight and even startling the first time viewing it because of the quality. You will be extremely delighted espeaially when using a high quality large high definition monitor.

We got the machine back and a couple months later it completely quit working. Oh Well, Guess we'll try again.

We returned it again and Sony sent us a refurbished unit. This one is starting to skip now when playing CDs.

The picture quality of this player is outstanding. It's only a $1300 machine.

However, on first purchase it had some distortion in the sound of one channel, wouldn't load discs on occasion, and very slow. We sent it back, got it serviced.

:)

This Blu-ray player does NOT have the latest surround sound ability (DTS HD Master Audio). As a home theater super-enthusiast, I am going to wait for the next generation from Sony that has the latest surround sound format.Still a 5-star BR player, but I'm surprised Sony didn't add in the latest surround sound ability.

I have always found the ES line worth paying more for and this player is no exception.I have a high end HDtv and Standard Definition (upconverting using HDMI) of the Sony ES2000 is beautiful.I have played some SD DVDs that look better than some HD blu-rays I have seen. Having owned other Sony ES line players I have always been impressed with the picture and build quality. If you want the top on the line blu-ray player the Sony S2000ES is the one to get. Extremely well made.there is a reason why the ES line has a 5 year parts and labor warranty and others are just 1 year. And remember SD DVDs will be around for a long time and that is most of what you will be viewing until more and more titles come out in HD.Do not buy if you do not have an HDMI input in your TV.It would be like buying a Ferrari and just driving it to the Super Market.
