There is no reason the machine should not print in black only when it can't recognize a full color cartridge so I consider this a huge design flaw. I do not refill cartridges and only use Canon cartridges purchased from the same retailer as the printer. I finally replaced my antique printer with this, and the problems with ink cartridges are unacceptable. The print quality is fine. when it is willing to print. I rarely print color, have everything set to black only, and have still blown through color cartridges in a couple of months, and now get the "ink cartridge not recognized" error message, which renders the machine totally useless. I would not recommend this printer.
RECEIVED CANON MP610 PRINTER IN GREAT SHAPE IN 4 DAYS.PRINTER WAS EASY TO SET UP. PRINTS BETTER THAN ANY OF MY OLD PRINTERS.PHOTO PRINTS ARE GREAT.
I purchased this printer rather than buy more cartridges for my Dell printer that jambed all the time. Those expensive cartridges were half the cost of a new printer with cartridges and I was not stuck buying inflated cartridges from Dell
That thing was a real dinosaur. Not to mention an ink hog. I'm amazed at the photo quality and speed at geting the job done. The ink cartridges are actually reasonably priced in comparison. I wouldn't trade it for anything else. I replaced a lexmark 5400 with it. very pleased in Washington state
Of course, I bought a bunch of ink just before I discovered this flaw. Otherwise, forget it.
I need the scan to work due to my small home business. So, if you have a Mac and don't care about scanning, it's a very nice printer.
I bought this printer just over a year ago and really liked it - until I bought a Mac. It looks like my daughter will have an early Christmas present.
It will not scan, period. And, in perusing various Mac Forums, this seems to be a common problem.
I'm trying to find a Canon printer that will scan and uses the same ink cartridges, which are expensive, but I'm afraid to try another Canon, just for this reason.
