I'll grant that LG customer service has been good. Never successfully recorded anything from TV to DVD. And yes, I said the _first_ time. about halfway through any DVD it would just give up, and the next time I'd try to turn it on it would spit out the media with an "unrecognized disk" error. I've purchased a replacement model from another manufacturer.
Even though it was no longer under warranty, the factory again took it in, and repaired it again for free. It would accept nothing, either to record or even to play, but spit everything back out with an error. The "new" unit started doing the exact same thing within six months. After two repairs, I don't trust it. But the unit is terrible.
The first time this condition developed it was still within warranty, and the factory "repaired" it. I've given up on this unit. It became completely useless except to play VHS tapes. (And for the record, even when it was working, most commercial VHS tapes can't be copied because of protection encoding in the tape, so if your goal is to copy your collection of commercial videotapes to DVD, this won't do the trick. Eventually, every disk became an "unrecognized disk," even pre-recorded commercial disks and disks recorded from the unit itself.

We take the discs and put them either into the Panasonic player we bought 5 years ago and our computer DVD drives and they all work great in those devices. We've also been having the problems with the DVD player/recorder spitting out discs. We've only managed to record one DVD (after 6 or 7 attempts, why keep throwing money away with the media).in the nearly two years of owning this. There's no tuner (we have to use another VCR to use as the tuner). We'll be looking for another brand of DVD recorder/VCR (Panasonic's always a possibility).
But now the unit totally crapped out on me and won't even record or play DVD's or VHS tapes. It was always a little flakey and didn't seem to work quite right, especially when burning DVD's. This is one of the worst pieces of electronics I have ever bought. What a piece of junk. It always ran really hot, whenever I played DVD's they came out warm to the touch, and the chassis was always very warm when the unit was on. Please. Mine completely died about 10 months after I bought it, and I didn't even use it that much. do yourself a favor and do not buy this unit, even though you will be tempted by the low price.
There is absolutely no way to get the option of TV input. This is the fatal flaw especially since I only want to record worthwhile old movie classics from TCM. It was a monster to get hooked up though I paid to have it done professionally after several knowledgeable nerds failed. No amount of cleaning or troubleshooting makes a difference, and the age or # of times played for a disc makes no difference. There is hardly anything else worth watching or recording on TV. None of the options/models for replacement that I am seeing in my online searching shows much promise as I read the reviews. That was bad enough, but now the DVD rejects playing 90% of the DVDs it was playing fine before.
In spite of instructions in the manual to the contrary, this set has no capacity to use timer recording from TV to DVD or VHS. Now It rejects Netflixs and almost all of my own DVDs with a No disc or Unrecognized disc error. They play fine on another DVD player we have. Have had this miserable product for just under a year. I cannot count the hours I have wasted trying to accomplish this. It replaced a Go Video dual deck VCR which finally gave up the ghost after 10 years of faithful service. Accepting the inevitability of VHS (of which I have an extensive collection)demise, I decided to bite the bullet and go to DVD while retaining the ability to watch and record on VHS.
Frankly, I wish DVD technology had waited to appear until after I was dead and gone.
I don;t like that there's no coaxial hookups just s-video and rca's for audio so you have to put tv in video mode for playback.I'm having trouble figuring this thing out. not the best way to hook all these units to work together. I tried to call support number waited half hour then hung up. plays dvd's cd-rs ok havn't done much else having trouble recording with vcr A lot to hook up if you have sat. manual just shows to hook up to tv. Seems to be LG UNIT not Zenith. box av 5.1 stereo and this unit and also tv to hook up. May be a good product but it's difficult to use for me.
