The display is a nother thing it does what ever it want to it goes bright and than dark . I bought this hd radio and it worked good at first about a week ago it started to good wild the clock won't stay set i set it and it does good for about a half the day and it has to be set again. I would tell people not to buy it not worth it money.
The sound quality through HD is no better. in fact worse than FM and the only advantage is that you can see the title of the song which is playing. The radio itself is very disappointing. The concept of HD radio seems to be fundamentally flawed in that there are very few radio stations which are available in HD but not on FM. terrible base, and very thin sound and no depth.Don't buy it
I have to continuely unplug the radio. this is a piece of junk. you only see refurbed items, no new items in stock anywhere. this item is consantly freezing up. It resets itself. because they suck.
easy to set up and convenient remote control. Sony XDR-S3HD HD RadioThis is an excellent product with great sound quality. Very good reception and easy tuning and presets.
It requires a little work for good reception since it has no built in antennas. It has the necessary clock radio features; so it would also serve well on a nightstand. AM tunes in all the locals fine, and at night I receive all up and down the west coast. With stations multicasting, it's nice to have 20 FM-HD presets. I live in SF Bay Area in close proximity to transmitters for a lot of stations; so the antennas included in the box worked OK. What was really good about this radio was its price.
Tonal quality for the radio's size is very good. FM-HD radio reception is excellent on all the HD multicast stations I like. I tried plugging in my MP3 player and it came through with good volume. Base and treble are easy to adjust.
Controls are intuitive and easy to access. Radio is great for home office or kitchen. I like the XDR-S3HD. I get FM reception from all over the Bay Area and as far out as Sacramento.
What totally eliminated HD drop-outs however was to use my outdoor TV antenna for FM-HD. I also, for AM, ran a 20 ft length of bare wire in the attic with insulated wire to the radio then grounded the second AM input. Fry's sells it for $99.90 and during September was giving out $50 rebates; so the radio cost me just $50.
