For $300, I expect a product to last at least 5 years. Pros: Once I got it working it recorded good video and audio quality using the LP or SP settings. Cons: It was hard to set-up, it froze up a lot programming or reading discs (but fortunately not while recording), and now is refusing to read or finalize most of the discs it records. One of the biggest factors in rating a product, for me, is its durability. I would have given this DVR a higher rating but it has essentially conked out after 17 months of use. No more Panasonic purchases for me.
I spent nearly six hours on the phone with customer service just trying cable hookups to get it to respond at all. It wouldnt work without the program(stupid requirement) I had only one TV so that was a real annoyance.I got so angry and disgusted that I just set it aside.
After that it wouldnt establish its program. It had a crazy requirement that you had to leave your TV off for 24 hours for it to establish a program.
I got this recorder because it had a hard disk and was touted as easy to use. Eventually after the warranty had expired I found it had come out of the box defective so I might as well as set fire to the $400.
Wrong. Terrible instruction book.
Save your money dont buy Panasonic
It's operations haven't been thoroughly tested, thus locking up the machine more often than not. I spent $300 plus sales tax for this.terrible WASTE OF MONEY. Believe me, stay away from this machine and be suspicious of similar Panasonic procucts. I bought the Panasonic DMR-EZ475V in May, 2007 and have had a lot of problems with it. It botches up DVD+RWs in so many different ways that they have to be thrown away. Bottom line.the DMR-EZ475V S-U-C-K-S.
I hate this player. I unplugged the machine, and plugged it back in, and the player still didn't open. It is a piece of garbage.
It also says that there is "no disc". Take my advice - don't waste your money on one. This is the worst dvd player I have ever owned.
I tried to open the player, and the door wouldn't open. It doesn't play several of my discs (they skip, even though they aren't dirty), and it is extremely slow. I recently played a disc, and they machine froze up.
Buy a Toshiba instead.
S&H is nonrefundable. Insult to injury is a 15% restocking fee. This refurb machine comes with only a 90 day warranty, was complicated to set up and didn't work once we did. Stay away from this one.
