User Comments about the TEAC CR-H227 Hi-Fi Mini Component System

So it's driving a pair if higher end speakers and has a lot to live up to because I love the Linn. That said, the sound is very acceptable. Inevitably at the price it lacks a the clarity and depth of a higher end unit, and the CD platter feels lightweight and flimsy, but overall I'm pleased with the purchase. My only real criticism is around the aesthetics of placing the iPod dock connector on the front the of the unit. Bought this unit because I am in the US (from the UK) for a couple of years and my Linn Classik doesn't like the US mains voltage or frequency. Cables aren't pretty and for my money they belong at the back not the front.

I asked Amazon how this could be , no real answer but they offered me 10% refund to keep it. Now Amazon are saying that if I do return it I will have to pay shipping because the item is in my own words working.

Now I can get a refurbished ( open Box) unit on amazon for 249 ( 100 less) so why did Amazon think 10% would do. Truth is I like the unit and I decided to keep it as it looks ok and works.

I ordered this and when it came I was surprised to find the actual teac box open with a production problem note attached. So Amazon do not consider selling an open item as new against consumer laws. The unit itself is fine, suits my purpose etc and maybe I should have just sent it back and bought from JR etc.

The unit was opened and all internal packaging opened as well. I contacted Amazon and they gave me a return authorization and sent me a new unit which again arrived open box etc etc.

Lesson learnt but be aware Amazon , at least in this case is selling open box products as new, even if they don't know itMaybe I got the first posters return item

It's a stupid design. It sure looks compact from the head on photographs, doesn't it. You also need a cabinet that is deep enough to hold a conventional receiver for this one to fit. Once I saw how long it is and that is is actually longer then my other receivers, I packed it up and shipped it back. You still need a deep shelf if you want to put is up on a wall discretely. You can buy a normal sized receiver with three times the power for one third the price. If it was the same width of a receiver but half the depth, that would be an advantage.

Sad to say, I didn't even try it. I ordered this unit without actually taking the time to check out the measurements and compare them to a "conventional sized" receiver. Yes is is about half the width, but what the heck advantage does this give. It isn't. It is actually a 1/2 inch LONGER then a conventional receiver. Amazon did allow me to send it back and they paid the shipping.
