The audio doesn't output through HDMI. good, but kinda misleading. But it does have 2 optical audio outs.
I had anticipated reliability when purchasing a SONY product, not failure. This is NOT an isolated problem, as there are numerous blogs on the internet regarding this issue. After less than 4 months, I've had to return the unit. The front display indicates "Protect" and the receiver does not work. I've mailed my receiver to SONY's service center in Texas and awaiting its repair, and in the meantime, I'm without an amplifier.
Very modest price, very big sound with plenty of crisp, clean power. Look elsewhere. The folks at Sony did it again with this baby. On a tight budget and want really good sound for your home entertainment system at a great price. The folks at J&R Music World also knocked my socks off with an order placed on a Thursday night being received via UPS ground by the following Monday - unheard of in this line of business. Gotta lot of extra money to waste on bells and whistles. My old receiver went unexpectedly on me; I had planned to put some money aside and get something "nice" in the future.
I saw all the other great reviews for this product on Amazon and they were right. Funny how things work - "nice" wasn't on my list for now - necessity was. I couldn't be happier the way things turned out. THIS IS IT.
You could do better but why spend all of that cash. You have all of the hook ups you need and power to spare. This is a very good receiver, nice power, nice sound, very nice price. I'm very pleased.
12" powered subwoofer coupled with two old Design Acustics three-way bookshelf speakers. For the $178.00 (free shipping too). I hooked this baby up to a B.I.C. Very powerfull and detailed sound - very satisfied with this unit. Be forwarned: the HDMI connection works the video only - you will have to hook up either co-ax or optical cables to make the audio work. I am leaning towards buying more B.I.C. Feeding CD quality audio from my Cox cable box into this system is AWESOME.
I still have to buy the center and surround speakers but the actual sound is superb - especially when you factor in the price. I did some research before I ordered this inexpensive Sony A/V Receiver and overall I am quite impressed. If you are like me, and have two HDTV viewing areas in your home, it gets pretty old to buy components that cost an arm and a leg. that I paid for this thing, it is a very good value. I realize there are much better alternatives, but not anywhere near this price. speakers to round out this system.
