You need to purchase SlingLink if your computer and your video source (cable box) are in different rooms. Easy setup. Easy stuff and an amazing product.
First of all, I did not need it control 3 inputs. I love this product but I paid about 150 less than the current asking on Amazon (I picked it up as a gold box deal). If you plan on sending HD over the internet, forget it. I have good internet service at home with up to 2 MPS upload and as much as 15 download. My cablebox has a built in DVR and, I am unlikely to have a desire to watch a DVD from my home DVD player over the internet. At the current price, I would have bought one of the lower end models of sling and been just as happy.
I travel frequently, and I rarely get more than 500KPS download speed in hotels I frequent. Secondly, the HD is not really realistic over the internet. When viewing your slingbox remotely, you care about your UPLOAD speed at home and your download speed at your viewing location (hotel, work.etc). My home upload speed is fine but I lose it on the download end.
This is ok for normal video but not for HD. I don't want to give a wrong impression. While I bought the slingbox pro, it was probably overkill for my needs. If you just care about watching TV from your home in a room that does not have a cable hookup or tv then, HD is possible.
So, my point is the pro works great but is probably more than most people need. I really only needed one input.
I need to get the HD adapter and I'm sure the picture will be even better. Picture quality is o.k. Great product. I can watch games on TV while at work. Overall very satisfied though.
Most people don't have their wireless router right next to their cable box so they will need the SlingLink to make the connection. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I had to buy the SlingLink to set up the networking part of it. This is an awesome product. It's relatively easy to setup and the picture quality exceeds all my expectations. The extra cost was well worth the pleasure I've been getting out of this little baby.
It does just what i want. It has more features then I need, but I hope to be able to use them in the future.Just one note, be sure this is what you want. This is a great product. Sending TV across the internet you will not get the best picture.
