User Comments about the Onkyo CS315S Executive Shelf System with Single Disc CD player

Powerful enough for any bedroom or a medium size living room. Clear and crisp sound. Highly recommended.

Onkyo is an affordable great quality of sound brand. I have found out that Onkyo receivers and amplifiers offer a variety of solutions that compete with most expensive devices. I bought the Onkyo 315 due to the great quality of sound I got in my recently purchased Onkyo Home Theater and I couldn't be happier. I am becoming a fan.

These are self-amplified (which means they need a nearby wall plug for power) and they will plug right into a portable CD player or a laptop computer. Another drawback is that the CD player does not do a fast forward or reverse scan without the remote (it will skip forward/back by track). All that I really needed was a CD player (not a radio receiver), and if this is the case for you, consider the Bose Companion 2 Series II speakers for $99. System delivers great sound, but the speakers are on the large size - good for sound, but not so good if you're short on space. The big surprise is how deep the speakers are (11.5 high by 6.5 wide by 9.5 deep). This is what I should have done, as they are cheaper, smaller, and produce adequate sound for my kitchen.

I have owned the Yamaha MCR series and this does not compare to those systems in terms of sound quality, rounded sound, volume or ability to drive nice headphones. The volume limit is also relatively low. This unit does not have the clean and clear sound that I hoped. The adjustment of bass and treble could not achieve a good EQ overall. After six months I decided to buy another Yamaha.

Plus the CD plays MP3s so I just burned a disk with a few hundred songs and never have to do a thing. This one does the job. I purchased this early this year from Amazon - I think the unit came from Vanns, which was fine.I use it in my office, which is in a basement. I had returned a Philips unit because of horrible reception. Very satisfied.
