However, I have to make modifications to scanned cards about 50% of the time which arguably defeats having the device. A quick typist could enter just as fast.My recommendation is that if you are quick on the keyboard, this is not a great investment unless you can afford to waste the money. If you are slow at data entry, this probably will save time over the course of a 100 or so cards.More time or money needs to be spent on improving the OCR software. I would have thought by now that current OCR software would make reading business cards fairly accurate and reliable. I am the President of a company and expect to be able to quickly enter business cards without having to spend a lot of time reviewing for accuracy. When they can reliably obtain 80% or more accuracy, I would more favorably endorse.
And when you do need to edit, the process is easy. The scanner is fast and accurate. The scanner and software exceeded my expectations. Setup instructions are simple. The software also provides additional excellent features such as the ability to maintain a parallel contact database in addition to Outlook.
It gets a little confused on the OCR especially with hand written stuff. We scanned about 300 cards and had less than 20 that were any kind of problem. This gizmo works great. It's a real bargain if you deal with business cards, survey cards, inventory, etc.
It is small and easy to pack (I travel a lot) and reads the cards with out error. The interface is very intuitive and easy to learn. I have had other card readers in the past (I usually bought the cheapest one I could find), but when my second card scanner bit the dust, a friend recommended the CardScan. The price was a little higher than the ones I have purchased in the past, but in this case it is true, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend this device and will recommend it to everyone.
The set up is a breeze and the performance is good. There were some hitches in recognizing the letters in a smaller font. I bought the product based on reviews already with Amazon. All in all, I am very happy with the integration with MS Outlook and the fact that I don't have to key in all the contact details laboriously myself. I am yet to use all the features, but I managed to load, edit and verify about 200 cards in about 3 hours time. I am not disappointed. I look forward to working with this more and discovering other productivity benefits in future.
