I would move the stylus over to the record and nothing would happen. (I WAS WRONG. I have one of these machines, I got it second-hand, and it works perfectly. IT WAS NOT BROKEN).Then I discovered that you actually move the stylus FIRST in the OPPOSITE direction, away from the record, and then the motor starts. Then you move the stylus back over to the record.I love this device especially because it plays 78 records, and you don't see that too often with any record players you might find from the '80s.Also, the speakers are very loud and good. At first I thought it was broken because the record would not rotate. I absolutely adore this turntable for many reasons.
I would like to return it for a refund. I am not happy with the quality and feel this item is not worth the price. The item I received was defective. When I moved the tonearm to the record, the turntable clicked off. VL
