I said I would try this cd later since I was enjoying the tv just the way I adjusted it. I got this back around April 2007 from Amazon and when I received my first flat panel tv from Amazon I did not use this for several months only because I thought I had on my own adjusted the tv for the best picture. But later I did use the cd and I was surprised that I was able to get a better picture than the one I thought was the best that I adjusted for my self earlier.
I am sure it could be better and I may hire someone in the future to calibrate my system but this disc does the job it was intended to do. The menus are easy to use, the narration is easy to follow and for $25 you really can't beat the price.I have a full time job and I have too many things going on in my life to become an expert on matters of all things HDTV. Initially I was sort of mad at the salesman that sold me this disk because I expressed my displeasure of all things "Monster". If you are like me and bought a nice home theater and want it to look good go ahead and buy this disc. I am sure some of the more technical discs are great but this took me all of maybe 12 minutes.
It showed me how to adjust my black levels (which is very important from what I am told), adjust my brightness and set my color correctly. Look, I don't have $400 to spend on getting my system professionally calibrated but I did want my TV to look as good as I could get it. I see too many people giving negative reviews of this disc. As one reviewer had said the video is slightly annoying but my TV looks fantastic. It's easy, does a good job and is endorsed by the ISF.
Yeah they sell overpriced cables and they use a lot of hype when promoting their products but this disc was actually pretty useful. That is the bottom line.
$20 and buy one (not thtough Amazon). It might be of some use to someone who has never seen a TV set before, but the average person can adjust the color, brightness and contrast, etc. I wish I had read Marc Anderson's review first. to get a picture suitable to watch by going through each setting, if you don't like the manufacturer's pre-settings.I had learned that such a product was available and tried several of the rental stores first, but they weren't available yet, if they even will be. Save your money on this one and see if there is such a thing that is really useful. I was rather skeptical about this product being so helpful and useful to really calibrate an HDTV, but unfortunately, decided to waste approx. Gary Patterson Decatur, IL
It is not intended for entertainment, however, and it does what it's supposed to do. This is a very fundamental calibration exercise packaged with a lot of hyperbole and an embarrassingly lame music video. The more electronically savvy user will want a more precise tool, but this one is good and inexpensive for the first-time user.
They also Claim that the whole video was in true HD on a Reg DVD. I guess if u pay 30 dollar then monster cable will Make any DVD turn into trueHD. Total Rips Off. Total waste of money. The whole time they trying to trick u into thinking u using a HDTV calibration disk for HDTV when it really for a SDTV. If u planing on buy a calibration disk make sure it on a hdDvd or Blu Ray disk for the trueHD not a reg DVD
