Before we got our satellite hooked up to it, we did use rabbit ears to receive the local HD channels, which was fine. It was really more simple than I thought it would be. I like being able to choose which mode (full sceen, letterbox, etc).
It's a great size for the bedroom and perfect to play XBox 360, movies, and tv on. to watch movies on the tv. I bought this particular tv on December of 2006.
All we had to do was open the box, slide out the tv and put it on the included stand. It arrived in the mail in perfect condition. I was really worried that it might get dinged up but it didn't and it arrived quickly.
The remote works well.
TURNS ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN GOES OFF. I PAID $700 FOR THIS MESS. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, STATE ATTORNERY GENERAL'S OFFICE AND THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. I PURCHASED THIS TV IN JANUARY 2008. IT IS NOW THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER 2008 AND NOW THE SET WON'T TURN ON AT ALL. DON'T BUY THIS SET UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS.
But, it would not be covered. I believe a $600.00 TV should last longer than 13 months. If your looking to buy, My Toshiba is 9 yrs and going strong. I bought a Sylvainia 6632 LG in April 2007, this morning it would not turn on. I called the Funai Corporation customer service 1800 605 8353 and was told it was out of warranty and I could bring it anywhere I wanted to see if they could fix it. The one star is only because it wouldn't let me submit with none.
Went to turn on and NOTHING-DEAD. I have had NO support what so ever from Sylvania (SECRET: it really is not sylvania, it is FUNAI) FUNAI SUPPORT is HORRIBLE, reps and supervisor HANG UP on you. DO NOT BUY. No repair shop wants to fix, they claim parts impossible to get. So, in one year, after I paid 700.00 this is going in the GARBAGE pile. I bought this TV 14 mos ago. Save yourself countless hours of agitation and phone calls.DO NOT BUY.
We've had this TV about 7 months, and it has developed wide, blue vertical bars down the entire left half of the screen. The repair man says $400.00 to repair a 7 month old $600.00 TV. I realize that this is not a top of the line TV, that it is considered a "entry level" set. Save your money, buy a Sony.
