The wires are literally just in what looks to be a loose, hand-wrapped coil with a fake casing masking the bulk of it so it looks official. There is no excuse for this poor of quality, I'm actually stunned.
It works as well (as terribly, rather) as if you just spiraled a normal aux cable yourself. There appears to be no actual mechanism, or if there is one it is ridiculously flimsy.
This is an absolute piece of junk. I never write reviews, but felt compelled to for this thing.
I just bought one, and literally just opened it. The second I pull the cord to extract the cable it tangles, wires stick out of the sides like an old cassette tape coming undone and it gets stuck.
Trust me, get a different one.
I had some difficulty at first understanding how to get it to retract; however, it only took a few minutes to "master" the skill. It also sometimes retracts if I accidentally pull on it when reaching for my iPod, but that isn't a big deal. If you're looking for a stress-free way to connect your iPod or other MP3 player in your car that comes with easy storage, I totally recommend this cord. I specifically bought this cord to connect my iPod to my car's stereo system, and it works great. Being retractable makes it perfect for the car; it's easy, tangle-free storage. If storage isn't a big deal (e.g., it's for home stereo equipment or something else with a similar level of permanency), you're probably better off getting a cord of a higher quality.
Thin cord, small connectors, and very unreliable retraction mechanism. Flimsy. You get what you pay for.
I have had it for about 6 months and have nothing but good things to say about it. My I-Pod sounds great through it and it extends and re-tracts just as it should. I bought one for myself and one for a gift. I have been very pleased with the cable so far. The person I gave it to as a gift likes it just as much as I do.
I bought a cheaper one before and it twisted itself from the inside and stoped working. I use it for my ipod in my car and its great.no more tangled wires. No probs with this one.
