It works great, has lasted >3 years so far with no decrease in sucking power. Gets the dog hair out of my carpet and makes it look like new - easy as pie. I bought this after researching on consumer reports and I'm so glad I did. I'd have to agree with others about 2 small flaws: foot lever is tough to use and hose could be longer but really I couldn't ask for more.
The hose falls out of its storage clips and gets in the way. The suction through the hose is adequate (though nothing like the Kirby or a good canister) and it reaches a fair distance. Handling is awkward and the bags are small, filling quickly with dog hair.
Using this vac for a year has shown a couple of bad points. Minor issues. I replaced my Kirby Legend II with the Eureka 4870 Boss after having severe problems with pet hair fouling the Kirby brush roll.
The switch for the brushroll is handy when running the vac in the kitchen, however, the air blowing out the HEPA filter in front of the vac scatters hair and dust. The Eureka absolutely devours dog hair off carpet. We have short and medium pile carpet, plus some hard floors.
The Eureka 4870 is a darn good value for its price, and seems to be built well enough to last a few years of regular use.
WOW, one swipe and all the dog hair is gone from the carpet. I have a white German Sheperd and boy does he shed. I have been using an oreck which is advertised as having the most suction power, but it wouldn"t pick up dog hair. My husband was leary of the vaccum claims, but boy did he EAT HIS WORDS when he saw the results. I recomend this vaccum to anyone who has indoor pets. I found your web sight and after reading Consumer Reports on this vaccum, I was ready to give it a try. You can"t go wrong.Vicky
While not extremely lightweight, it's not too heavy; it's much lighter than the old Electrolux canister model it replaced. I've had this vacuum for 2 yrs now and am very satisfied with it- IMO it is worth more than the price. I'm sorry, but everyone that says it's too heavy needs to get in shape- keep vacuuming with it and muscle up.
a lot of the year. These lower end vacuums just don't hold up to heavy vacuuming. That being said, this vacuum was at the dump in just under a year - another throw away. This vacuum didn't last at all. Granted, I have a dog that sheds (don't we all). This would be great for people who don't have pets that shed or kids that track in everything under the sun.
