that we cannot get off our butt and press the Eject Button on the face of the machine. I have owned both Philips and Philips/Magnavox TV's, VCR's and DVD Players since the 1980's and have found them all to be very durable and long lasting if treated with respect. Give me a break. DVD Picture and Sound are fine on this machine and the Picture and Sound on the VCR are really dependant on the tape quality being played or recorded upon. I purchased my unit earlier this year through Amazon and while it was a little difficult to understand the different functions at first it has worked wonderfully since then. Yes, from time to time it will not switch from DVD to VCR without pressing the VCR Eject Button to re-set the machine, at the US$57.99 I paid for the unit it is a small price to pay. MY GOD.
Have we become so bloody lazy in the U.S. I cannot believe some of the other reviews for this item. Complaints because it does not have an Eject Button on the remote control. I believe this is an exellent piece for the cost and would recomend it to those looking for an inexpensive DVD/VCR Combo.
it would play. We'd eject and and re-load the disc. Pretty darn frustrating for an elderly lady and her daughter so I swapped it out for my Samsung 4600.
We'd turn it off and on again; "insert a disc," "faulty disc," "loading." Sometimes, after who knows which combination, Oh. Now she is happily watching Christmas with Andre Rieu and I am listening to jet aircraft approching as I try to watch a VHS cassett. I bought this for my elderly mother - not a whiz at electronics but she knows how to insert a disc and hit play.
We'd eject and clean the disc. However, it seems the machine doesn't know how to scan a disc and play. We would get various screen messages, "insert a disc," "faulty disc," "loading," but the thing wouldn't kick in.
(it's pretty loud)
I purchased from Value City and the DVD tray does not work.a malfunction, I assume. It is definitely a waste of time and money. I purchased one of these combos and was very disappointed. It will be returned immediately. I higly Reccommend not wasting your money on this one.
on DVD. Can't say much for the video or sound quality, menu options, or anything really, since this thing broke after 2 minutes of watching Monsters, Inc. Playback just froze, the thing stopped recognizing that DVDs were in unless you turned the thing off and then back on again, and after another minute it wouldn't even start playing the thing at all, just whirred a lot.So, dud.
There is the issue of the eject button being absent but then again, when you eject via remote control, you still have to get up to get the DVD out of the player so maybe it is not so necessary to have an eject button. I've had no problems with this player playing my home made DVDs unlike others. I bought this DVD in January 2006 and have not regretted to this day. It is a bit difficult to set up but besides that it is a great purchase.
