I unscrewed the top of the VCR caseand was able to remove and salvage the second tape. Thereafter the VCR would no longer play tapes and eventually the machine would just shut itself off. I had mine less than a year before it ate a couple of tapes and then refused to eject them. The epitome of the disposable appliance.
PROS:* Sharp Picture* Fast Rewind & Forward* Lightweight* Large LCD Readouts/clock* Easy set upCons:* Rewind drags to a stop* Minature buttons on the remote
Even a new tape does not help. I am convinced that every VCR out there today is nothing but junk. In the past few weeks it no longer rewinds completely to the beginning, and programs recorded get extreme distortion and loud humming. How do you find a decent VCR. Can't stop the tape anywhere near where you want it to. I noticed Wal*Mart quit selling Sanyo VCRs. Warranty is 1 year parts and 90 days labor.
No one would return this for repair after 90 days and pay more for labor than the unit is worth. Eight months old, and it no longer records or plays back properly. The fast forward and reverse are a joke. I have gone through three VCRs in the past 18 months. My first VCR when they first came out lasted 14 years. I went through two of these in less than a year.
The only complaint is that it is so fast I sometimes have to back up a little when bypassing sectors, but that is a minor complaint at best. What I like best is the fact that it has a double speed option for winding and rewinding which whips past commercials in a heartbeat. This VCR is perfect for the technologically challenged. The remote is intuitive and has a relatively small learning curve. The picture clarity is great, I have 4 active VCRs for taping, and only very occasionally do I have to adjust the tracking when viewing tapes recorded on another machine.
A minor complaint is the difficulty in controlling the tape while rewinding or FFing when one wants to stop/play tape at a specific point. The picture and sound quality is excellent. Almost invariably, I under-or-overshoot because the unit allows some tape to continue rolling after receiving the command, as it gently brakes the tape speed rather than stopping it on a dime. The Panasonic PV-V4525S VCR was very reasonably priced, was purchased to replace an old unit, and hopefully it will last until the analog age ends a few years hence. It is quiet when recording and very fast when rewinding or FFing. Thus I REW/FF several times, trying to stop it right on the point I want, but rarely do I hit it exactly. After using it a few weeks, it seems like it will fulfill that function well. This could be a bigger problem if I were someone who wants to do a lot of taping, but overall, I like this unit.
