User Comments about the HUMAX Digital ATSC TV Tuner for HDTV Reception

Does everything well except occasional freezup when changing channels. Only way to fix this is to unplug the unit for about ten seconds to reset it. Good unit bought before cheap tuners were available. See related review of Insignia tuners.

Can switch between the different HD resolutions. Was worth the one time cost of $200 I paid. Of course now digital tv converters are more accessible then they were 2 years ago, so you could just be satisfied with a non-hd picture and pick up a regular converter for $10 after the government coupon. I've had this HD tuner for a couple years now and it's worked out great. It has a nifty on screen guide and can search and find digital channels easily. Prices on the HD ones may come down now too.

Also the show descriptions are mixed up between stations and times. I purchased this unit from Amazon last year it has worked very well except for the Guide, Never mind that the Guide can only show a few channels at time, it looses its info on the 1hr and.5hr if viewing when the hour changes. As long as you don't try to view it on the hr and.5hr Titles and times are correct.

You will also find that many channels suddenly provide more content. Who knew that channel 44 in Boston is now broadcasting 4 separate streams. If you want to receive the free HDTV signals that are available over the air, you are probably having a problem finding an appropriate tuner unless you are willing to subscribe to cable or satellite and pay for what is free. 44-1, 44-2, 44-3 and 44-4 all provide great programming that you will miss without an HDTV receiver. The only down side of this early entry in the HDTV receiver/converter arena is that it will occasionally "hang" and need to be power cycled if it is not locked on a good channel. Humax provides an over the air HDTV tuner that will deliver free programming to your television in any format used in North America from HDTV right down to standard television. When you are on a good channel, reception is perfect and the box works great.

The user interface is well thought out allowing you to scan through "what's on" while playing the current channel in the corner. This tuner was easy to set up and has worked flawlessly since. This is a great way to switch to HDTV for anyone that has an HD-Ready monitor.
