User Comments about the Hewlett Packard 8X 4.7GB DVD-R

The 100 pack cost $27.00 here at micro center puls 6.75% tax make it $29 and some change. When I ordered it I saw the picture of the 100 case package, so I thought I would get the 100 pack for the $30.00. But they are very hard to come by. The HP DVD-R 8X disks work very good on my DVR writer. plus tax. I think maybe PH stop making 8X, However I found ouy that the higher ones like 16X and 32X work just as good or even better. However, I did not keep the ones I ordered from AMAZON because their 50 pack cost a few cents more that what the 100 pack cost at Micro Center. It just can't use anything under 8X.But the HP brand works very well for my Writer.

you really can't go too wrong with this brand of DVD-R media. So, what do you do. It records images and audio very faithfully and the audio and images have not decreased in quality over time on any of my disks. If you don't mind an infrequent coaster I would go with this brand, especially when on sale, unless your needs are more professional or you have a time deadline to get a project done. You already knew it--you're stuck back at square one and you have to burn the DVD-R all over again from the beginning--on another blank disk.

On the other hand, I suppose that at least nine out of ten disks being absolutely fine (in other words, at least a 90% performance rate) isn't too bad BUT for a person who just can't be bothered with this drawback I honestly have to recommend you try another brand of DVD-R media.Nevertheless, the price IS right and for those of us on a budget such as college students (or me). It seems like as many as one out of ten disks turns into a coaster after the recording process goes seemingly uneventfully. This was an item I originally decided to try on sale at a store here in New York--and overall, I am pretty much satisfied with it. This can be a nasty surprise, especially if you've just copied oh, say, six hours of VCR tape onto the DVD-R disk. It has never damaged any of my three DVD players.

You occasionally get a surprise coaster, however. Moreover, the packaging is excellent--very sturdy.
