It seems to cut the battery life in half. It's not a very wide beam but puts plenty of light on things right in front of it. This is exactly what I expected. It throws useful light up to 5 or 6 feet. Well made and good for the money.
Sony HVL-HL1 Video Light (3-Watt) for HDR-HC3Worked as described, no problems.vendor shipped fast.
BUT IT IS VERY SMALL I no it looks big but it is probability no bigger then a thumb. I got it today for my Sony HDR-HC9, it works amazing and gives good light. Besides that, I love it.
I love the size, and the light is great. I didn't have this problem because I overkilled the issue months ago when I bought by mistake the NP-NH100. I use it with a Sony HDR-CX7 (a very small memory stick HD camcorder), and it really improves the low light recordings.I'm very pleased with the results, the size and the price. Thank god I never returned this monster of power. It's a solid five stars. You just have to deal with the battery of your camcorder. Whe the HVL-HL1 arrived, I couldn't believe the size.
I think it's important the people can see the real size, just in case. I had to make shure that it really was the light a bought. I will post a customer image. With the 3 watt HVL-HL1, the NP-NH100 will give me all the power I need.
For wider range, we would need to more powerful watt to cover light and get a clear sharp image. This is great product for shooting video at low light and close images. I gave it five as it worked out of the box and it served my purpose.
