Then the sound quality turned out to be terrible. The tape player tapes the sound of its own motion into anything else you're taping, and the CD door stopped working after a few weeks. Only the radio continues to work. My first COBY purchase and I will not buy any of their products again. I had to call a technician to figure out how to connect the speakers. I'll be giving it to Salvation Army next week, all faults clearly marked.
I switched to using the CD player, but it no longer recognizes that a CD is in it. I just put it out on the sidewalk for the junkman. After only a few months, the tape player started making a loud hum and then started eating my tapes. If anyone knows of a company still making a small combination CD, tape, and clock radio, please let me know.
The two surprise Cons I'm willing to put up with for the price: 1) the sound does not go beyond moderately high, and 2) you need both the remote and the system to access everything. For instance only the remote has volume control so a few times when I've lost track of the remote its been annoying. After 6 months of daily use the Pros are: nice sound, nice looking, compact with the bonus of separate speakers to spread out sound. Other than that I like it in my small bedroom for morning music and news and a CD, casette or ballgame on the radio now and then.
The CD and cassette features broke after a couple of months of light use. I didn't retain the box to send the stereo back to the company, and it was too late to return to Amazon.
When I called Coby, they said to return it. Several weeks later, they sent me a reconditioned unit (not my original) that was dirty and scratched. I didn't have to send a $12 check this time, but I would have to pay for the $11 shipping from my home.
And several features on it were broken. I said that that made no sense- that they should pay for shipping, but they said Coby's policy was to never pay for shipping from customers. I bought this product as a Christmas gift for my daughter.
Coby told me to send it to them, but I had to enclose a $12 check and I had to pay to ship it (another $11). By the first week of Feb., it was broken. Amazon wouldn't take it back because it was 30 days after my purchase.
This unit is going in the trash and I will never by a Coby product again.
