(I could have alternately chosen to hook the TV to the receiver with the same cable. but have not tried that yet).Note that neither the 360 nor the receiver come with such a cable (though if you plan to hear anything beyond stereo, you need it). Also, (from web research), don't get a 6' cable if 3' will do.Some sites tout the benefit of optical over other choices for multi-channel audio; but as far as I tell with the Xbox, there isn't any other choice to worry about. The connections are firm. You either need a toslink from the xbox to the receiver (or TV to receiver) or you go with HDMI to the receiver (cheap ones don't support HDMI).
It has no frills -- it just does the job that needs to be done. Make sure when using this cable that the tiny plastic covers are removed from the connectors -- they are very difficult to see. This cable is a welcome alternative to the higher priced cables at local electronic stores. I first thought the cable wasn't working properly because of them.
I have Onkyo 606 receiver and this cable performs as well as a 50 dollar cable I purchased when used on this device.
They have worked fine, but have nothing to compare them to. I was just glad not to have to pay for the name Monster that everyone was pushing one us for an exhorbitant amount in comparison. All I can say is they were installed easily and are working fine. Don't know much about these, was just told I needed digital optical cables. Read all the reviews about them and bought them with that information in mind. We have had no problems.
Using them between new HD Satellite box and Bluray DVD back to my receiver. No issues with setup. No frills but these cables are a good value compared to retail prices. Shipping was quick and packaging ok (padded pouch vs small box).
