User Comments about the Sony SCD-CE595 5-Disc CD/Super Audio CD Player

Thank god I kept the excellent remote from my old Sony player that I bought over 10 years ago which works with this one. I guess I'm out $150, too, because I can't get it to do a thing. It first started skipping on the first tracks, and then would just stop mid-track. I don't know why they don't just reuse that remote. Apparently, the player has a major flaw and should probably be shelved by Sony.I also agree that when it was working that it did seem to take forever to read the discs, therefore, shuffle is useless because you could wait up to 20 seconds for the next song.

The remote is very limited. Knowing the hassle of repairs on any electronics, I decided to figure out the problem myself. I have had this player for almost 2 years now, and it just started acting-up with the same problems as the other reviews. I had it running perfect yesterday, but wouldn't read the discs again today. I was never even able to find anything I listen to on SACD to even use that feature.

And now it won't read the discs at all. Anyway, Sony really messed up on this one.

With electronic items I've discovered over the years that you get what you pay for. I was never satisfied with this player--from the moment I hooked it up to the moment it crapped out less than a year after I paid for it. This is the last time I try to save a little money.

I would ask, how is it a piece of electronic gear can "mellow" with use. I understand wine and cheeses mellow, but I suspect in this case, it's the human ear adjusting to a brighter sound and that becomes the new norm.No problems with this unit.

Dust. Heat.

My 17 year old Sony CD player started to get CD's stuck that required a good thump to get the door open. I'm looking to buy more SACD's and since most of my collection is classical, I have some good choices.

This new players is a good value and a perfect match for my "stack" set up. It's 1 inch deeper so it sticks out the back, but this is not seen.Like other reviewers, I noted the brighter sound too.

Either way, my current CD's sound the best in years.

Haven't had a chance to try an SACD so far. But regular ones sound good. So far seems to work fine. Pretty much what I expected.

For $150 (or $59 shipped from SonyStyle refurbished like I bought mine, that's right FIFTY NINE DOLLAR FOR A SACD CHANGER) this player reminded me why I used to buy so many CDs (lately I've been shopping for a lot more vinyl). If you're using a basic DVD player, or even a moderately nice one, this player will probably make all your CDs sound much more like they should.

It sounds great, and makes you want to crank it up. I'm not an audiophile - which should be very obvious as I'm raving about an inexpensive Sony CD player, but just to clarify: I'm not an audiophile.

I bought this to relieve a DVD player (Oppo DV-980H) of audio duties and to have a changer again. The remote is great, it's reasonably speedy with a bit of a slow read when first starting a CD, the changer is as quiet as I've heard.

I've used a number of CD and DVD players over the years, but since 2001 when I bought my first Pioneer 5-DVD changer I haven't had a dedicated CD player in my set up. Most reports out there say DVD players make great CD players, and furthermore that the Oppo I own is a remarkable player and all that.Well, after spending but a few weeks with this player I am convinced they're all wrong.

a very nice piece of reasonable electronics.
