I don't know why it matters but it does. This WILL NOT WORK with an ipod video or a iphone or an ipod touch ( I tried it with all) I bought this to charge my iphone and it seemed like it had the correct attachment, however the other end is firewire which WILL NOT charge the iphone.the iphone will say incompatible. Maybe if you have an old black and white ipod this will work
Always handy to have if you are playing your i-pod in the car on a long journery or you just forgot the recharge at home.
My dog chewed on the one I got with my iPod originally & had looked for a replacement. This is exactly what I was looking for, works great. This is the only one that worked with my first generation iPod.
The ipod can still be charged from other sources so it's not the ipod's fault. Also, watch out if you turn off/on your car while it is plugged in - on a new car with no other charger problems this seemed to cause my ipod to lock up. Also, not a problem with other chargers. The charger gives a nag screen each time you plug it in (1G Nano or 1G Video) that is a minor inconvenience, but the real problem is that it has completely stopped working about 4 months after we got it. It shows that it is charging my ipod and then the ipod shows that it is fully charged, but once it is unplugged it dies a few minutes later. I'm glad we just paid a few dollars for this.
This is very handy and works great. The picture doesn't show it but it comes with the cord that plugs into the charger and the ipod so you have everything you need in the car.
