But, that's ok. Some of the buttons are located in different places. I use it daily to record. I haven't had any problems with it. It works just fine.
Other manufacturers offer one year labour warranty. On negative side only three month warranty on labour. But then again have never needed to use warranty. Purchased in May 2003.Inexpensive, reliable, fast rewind. Have owned other Samsung vcr's over the years and have found them to be very reliable. Wish this product was available on Amazon.ca. Useful feature is record file that puts date/time on tape. Very difficult to find in local electronic stores.
The ugly: Like other reviewers found, our unit sometimes clicks noticeably and rhythmically during various tape-movement operations. When we needed a second VCR a few months ago we tried this VR8360.The good: This model is much smaller than our old one, has many more features, and cost 80% less. The unit doesn't weigh much and may not last forever (I'm afraid this might apply to all modern VCRs). The clock sets itself back when we try to change it; easily dealt with by recording an 8:00-9:00 program from 7:59-9:03. Also, the Eject button on the VCR itself is where you would normally expect the Power button to be. This way shows are never cut off. It does not seem to do it on every tape, and it usually is not loud enough to bother us.
But if you are easily annoyed by this kind of thing, beware.-->> 2008 update to that January 2004 review -- the clicking noise has disappeared. We have used our 1996 Samsung VCR almost daily for 7+ years, and it has held up well. Samsung said on our warranty card that sending it back earns you a free extended warranty. The bad: No Eject button on the remote. Amazing. The programming is easy and the recording quality is good. The 1996 Samsung still works too.
And even when it's playing it makes the noise, too, just not as loud. It makes this loud clicking noise. I agree. This VCR is very loud, especially when it is rewinding. I am also returning mine.
This is a verry good VCR. I bought it for $54 when Target first got it I have no complaints about it and it is one of the very best VCR's I have owned.
