User Comments about the Pioneer PD-F1009 301-Disc CD-File Changer

Sure, it took a couple hours to load our entire CD collection and enter the information, but the payoff was thousands of hours of musical enjoyment.I had read from other reviews that the new Sony 300 and 400 CD changers let you enter only one label for each disc, forcing you to choose between genre, artist, and title. That was a big step down from being able to enter all three. We needed to replace an old Fisher 150 CD player that worked great for over 10 years but recently started to jam. I don't understand why anyone with the engineering talent to design a carousel mechanism that works this well would cripple it by forcing the user to select from 301 CD's solely by disc number. Imagine my disappointment to discover that this Pioneer product doesn't let you enter any text at all. Such a user interface would be appropriate for a 5-disc changer, not one this big.Sadly, I'm going to have to return this product. If the CD happens to have CD+Text on it (or you don't mind burning a new copy of each CD in your collection with the text added), the Pioneer will display the text, but you still can't search and select music in a convenient way.

It was easy to play all your Christmas music, or all your Beatles CDs, or find a CD titled "Sound of Silence". You can set up a list of favorites, but the programming is all by disc and track number. On the positive side, loading CD's is wonderfully easy. The unit works smoothly and quietly. I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews before ordering this unit for my wife. We really enjoyed those features. That brand is no longer available, so I searched for a substitute. Our old player, from the mid 1990's, stored a category, artist, and title each time you loaded a CD. You could search by any of the above.

We're going to join the modern world and load all the old CD's into an MP3 player (an iPod or maybe a computer) instead.

I figured it would be longer than an iPod, but it averages 20 seconds (I timed it), which is longer than I expected. You can program 5 different groups and then listen to songs in the group randomly. Thanks to this product, my wife and I have been listening to music that we hadn't heard in years. If you're doing something else (like reading), you really don't notice the lag. Also, putting all of my CDs in the changer and creating a log took only about 4 hours.

I suspect that burning 250 albums would take many times that.Cons: one disappointment is the length of time in between songs. The products of Sony, which also sells this type of changer, are too deep. This product provides a great solution to someone (a) with a ton of CDs that sit in a drawer or a box in the basement, and (b) who doesn't want to expend the time or money to buy the electronic versions of these albums and burn them onto an iPod. The feature that I really enjoy is the custom group feature. However, if I were throwing a party and wanted to keep the beat going, this would be a problem.

Pros: in addition to those just described, we bought this product frankly because it fit our audio-visual cabinet. A second drawback is the number of custom groups: we could've used a few more. The jury's out: I just got this about 2 or 3 months ago, so I don't yet know how durable it is.

Bought one of these many years ago, filled it & bought another four years ago.Play both constantly (turn them on in the morning & fill the house with music all day).Never have had a problem with play.Accessing a CD & button selection a bit confusing/difficult, but newer models may have addressed this.

I've re-recorded them on different makes of CD and still have the same issue. It used to play them all fine, but now they will skip intermittently and some just do not play. I've had this product for over a year now. While it works well playing store-bought CD's, it has an issue now with some CD's that I created. I would not recommend this player if your CD collection is primarily made up of CD's you made yourself.

Works great, sounds great. Replaced a Sony which I ended up hating. Love it. Recommend highly.
